Cnet announced today that BMW is partnering with Real Good Solar to offer ActiveE BMW customers incentive to fuel their homes with the sun, in addition to their cars.
By driving electric cars, BMW ActiveE drivers have already kicked the gasoline habit. But now the auto manufacturer is giving them a little help in the effort to quit fossil fuels for good. BMW has partnered with Real Goods Solar to offer EV…

Real Goods Solar is a Colorado-based company with offices in California and Connecticut. They offer several purchase plans, including the typical upfront system purchase, a zero-down 20-year lease of the system, and a pre-pay lease. Our understanding of the deal is that they will install solar panels at homes of ActiveE drivers at a 35 percent discount.
If you’re interested in more details, please contact your local BMW dealer. They should be able to provide you with the information you need to explore this offer further.
We love the fact that BMW is taking a holistic approach to green energy and moving beyond the boundaries of these luxury cars (in New York and across the US) to helping ActiveE owners bring it all the way home.
It’s a shame to see such beautiful, and in some cases brand new super cars (Maserati, Corvette, Viper and McLaren) all crashing within the span of two days. Today it was reported (see the link below) that all of these super cars crashed on the Autobahn most likely due to bad weather.
We won’t detail everything here, but we want to note that although extremely fast, these cars are also incredibly safe. More than one car is probably totaled as a result of the individual crashes (including the Maserati GranTurismo), yet all the drivers are fine.
A couple of hours later and the Corvette was the final victim to this patently dangerous stretch of German road.According to Hersfelder Zeitung, no-one was seriously injured in any of the crashes although the McLaren was confirmed as a write-off and the Maserati looks to be going that way too…
You can check out some of the latest Maserati models on the Maserati website and we have a video on the Gran Turismo immediate below
The Maserati GranTurismo is designed by Pininfarina. In keeping with their brand, it features fluid lines that direct the eye smoothly from the stunning front to the sweeping rear. The interior of the Maserati GranTurismo combines both captivating design and luxury materials with the prestige that only the space and light of this super car can provide. It is powered by an eight cylinder 4,244 cc V90° engine, one that is part of the company’s new range of power units.
In fact, the Maserati GranTurismo reacts brilliantly in many different conditions thanks to its perfect weight distribution: 49% of the car’s weight sits over the front end and 51% on the rear. This set up was achieved by shifting the engine behind the front axle and it gives the driver an unparalleled sense of security in any conditions.
In addition, the exclusive Skyhook System assures the automatic and continuous control of the damping whatever the road condition. It does this without affecting on-board comfort, penalizing performance or compromising the car’s sporty and responsive nature.
The Maserati provides a fast, safe, comfortable performance and ride.
The luxury car market is seeing more women drivers than ever before, and without a doubt Mercedes-benz owners are a big piece of that market.
We’ve pulled information from some of the top luxury car blogs in New York and surrounding areas to bring you the latest.

A Mercedes isn’t the only luxury car women choose to drive, although it is probably one of the top cars. 2011 resulted in more women buying luxury cars than ever before both in New York and across the US. We could summarize our thoughts on that, but we believe every woman has her own reasons for the car she chooses to drive, and we’re just fine with that.

Words can’t do justice to the Mithos Electromagnetic Vehicle – it’s an impressive new concept car from Portuguese industrial designer Tiago Miguel Inácio. Enjoy….
We realize there are many concept cars that never make it to production, however in this case, this car warrants watching. The futuristic technology, beautiful design, and intrique of this vehicle make it worth the mention.
Mithos was originally designed in 2006 and modified in 2011. It is a ZERO emissions supercar with some unbelievable features. You can read about the details in depth here: http://www.endpoint.pt/mithos/features/
We’ll summarize them here:
ZERO Emissions Supercar
Equipped with a 1.5 megawatt electromagnetic induction motor (2011hp), Mithos can go from 0 to 100km/h in 2.1 seconds and reach the maximum speed of 397 km/h in approx 12 seconds. Batteries are automatically rehcharged by local W.C.S (wireless charging stations).
H-Fiber Memory Coating
Crash resistant body panels are manually crafted in H-fiber composite and shape memorized in an authorized Nanotechnology Facility. In case of a crash or body damage, the Mithos BPU (body processing unit) automatically reshapes the body panels into its factory defaults.
Terrain Scanning System
For a relaxed driving experience, Mithos is equipped with T.S.S Mapping and Recongnition sensors, which continuously gathers the current terrain morphology, rechedsk with the E.T.D (earth terrain database) and safely adjusts the suspension behavior, into its optimal settings.
Q-Teleportation Ready
Engineered from the beginning to be Q-Teleported, the M.T.P (molecular teleport processor) provides Mithos molecular coordinates and dynamic properties to a standard Q-Teleport Transmitter/Receiver Station, enabling safe, fast and easy teleportation.
Instant Torque Response
Due to the high torque of the 1.5 megawatt electromagnetic motor and the high adherence of Flexirubber tires, the traction control system smooths out unnecessary accellerations into a safer G force level, thus preventing inertia derived injuries.
Quantum Boost Technology
By using Quantm Boost Technology on demand, Mithos can magnetically leviate, relieving the air and ground resistance and reaching its top quantum speed of 655 km/h* making longer tips faster, safer and more exciting.
* Only authorized on a magnetized controlled freeway.
Is this real or imaginary? Well, we think it might be difficult to find a decent stretch of highway that’s magnetized-controlled.
With that said, kudos to Tiago for dreaming, designing, and creating a concept supercar that encapsulates the future…today.
We’ve got video of the new 2012 Porsche 911 Cabriolet.
The new convertible version of the new 991 series Porsche 911 will be unveiled at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show, with its innovative folding roof design. It sharpens the look, increases refinement and improves the aerodynamics.
At this point, we’re expecting the new 911 Cabriolet to arrive just in time for summer for our New York Luxury Car enthusiasts and buyers.
With the new design, it takes only 11 seconds for the roof to go up or down, and you can do this even at speeds up to 37 mph. We think this car has sportier dynamics, while boasting lower fuel consumption, less weight and even greater comfort.
Power in the Carrera Cabriolet comes from a slightly downsized 3.4-liter flat-six engine with 350 horsepower on tap, just like its Coupe equivalent. If you choose the Carrera S Cabriolet and you get a 3.8-liter flat-six engine with 400 horsepower. Pure sweetness. Both can be equipped with a seven-speed manual transmission or seven-speed PDK dual clutch unit to suit your preference.
Pricing will start at $98,250 for the Porsche Carrera Cabriolet and at $108,950 for the Carrera S Cabriolet. At these prices they won’t necessarily fly off the shelf, but we think the enhanced design, performance, comfort and fuel savings will help to top that off. Coupled with the time of year it releases, this Porsche convertible will be the perfect car for late summer and early fall.
What differentiates the new Bentley Continental GT V-8 from the W-12 powered version? Twin exhaust tips shaped in a figure-eight is just one of the exterior clues.
Bentley Motors announced that it is introducing a 500-horsepower twin-turbo V-8 engine for its Continental GT coupe and GTC convertible models at the Detroit Auto Show in January. Both automobiles will offer the W-12 engine as a higher-priced option.
One might think the company’s new 4-liter V-8 may be out-muscled by its 6-liter W-12, which generates 631 horsepower at its top end. But you’ll be surprised by the V-8 more advanced package. The new engine features technologies found in the most contemporary power plants, including direct fuel injection, friction-reduction strategies and efficient thermal management. The twin turbos are packaged between the cylinder banks to reduce lag time, and a variable displacement system shuts down four engine cylinders under light load. She’s very, very smart.
Brian, Gush, with the British publication Autocar, said that producing the V-8 was a collaborative effort and in the end Bentley “put the power and torque where we believed they should be to suit our cars.”
Bentley said that the new powertrain delivers a 40 percent improvement in fuel efficiency and CO2 emissions compared with the W-12. Final fuel economy numbers are not yet available, but Bentley states that the automobiles can travel more than 500 miles on a single tank (of what would have to be premium fuel), and we find that impressive.
Most drivers probably won’t miss the extra muscle of the W-12, as the Continental GT and GTC can, according to the automaker, reach 60 m.p.h. in less than 5 seconds, while topping out at 180 m.p.h.
Additional details for the V-8 models include a subtle yet distinctive trim, including a black matrix grille, the Bentley figure-eight exhaust pipes and interior touches like a special wood veneer.
As for whether the V-8 models would represent a significant cost savings over the W-12 Continental, that we don’t know yet. Pricing and availability for the Bentley Continental GT should be announced closer to the Detroit show next month. We’ll keep you posted!
Luxury car dealers and manufacturers are pushing for end-of-year sales that include cars as holiday-season gifts.
The luxury car market tipped to grow at a surprising 70-80% this year. It has weathered the downturn much better than mass market cars. While the overall passenger vehicle industry is likely to end this year with approximately a 6% growth, the luxury car market will still manage a healthy 45-50% growth, say industry experts.
Mercedes-Benz, BMW and AUDI are likely to sell around 22,000 units this year, up from around 15,000-16,000 last year. Luxe car brands are planning on new launches and aggressive pushes into tier-2 markets will continue the growth story.
“The overall luxury car market growth dominated by the big three – BMW, Mercedes-benz and Audi – should be in the region of around 50% this year,” says Vidur Talwar, MD, of T&T Motors. “The growth was much better in the first six months of the year but has been much lower since August.”
A few strategic launches have revitalised the luxe market; BMW‘s super successful X1 SAV (sports activity vehicle) launch did well and is likely to sell around 2,500-3,000 units this year. Without the X1′s contribution, the entire luxe market would have managed only about 30% growth. Add to this Audi’s successful Q5, which along with the Q7, helped the company give an excellent performance even in a quiet month like November.
Even super luxury brands like Rolls Royce expect a decent performance this year. Tata Motors-owned Jaguar – Land Roveris expected to sell more units this year, as well.
Interestingly enough, red and yellow cars aren’t selling as well, although Lamborghinis and Ferraris continue to move. Total new Lamborghini sales for the 2011 calendar year to date are 290, up 9.8% from 2010, according to motorintelligance.com. Another interesting trend includes more women buying Lamborghinis, Porsches and similar luxury and exotic cars.
Dealers and manufacturers are both pushing for more sales at year’s end, which often fits buyers’ schedules and wallets.
New Mercedes-Benz sales for the 2011 year to date total 234,473, up 15.2% from the 2010 at this time. New BMW sales for the year to date are 221,073, up 12.3% from this point in 2010. As the end of the year 2011 approaches, more leases are often up, interest rates are low, and people are ready to trade in for newer models. The fact that families are often off together during the Holiday season with more time to shop, also positively impacts luxury car sales and leases.
New Audi car sales for the calendar year to date total 104,906, up 15% from 2010.Audis are considered to be a trendy vehicle that maintains elegance, status and performance.
Most car dealers have good luxury car inventory as we head out of 2011 and into 2012. This equals a win/win for both dealers and car buyers.
